The Royal Palace of Stockholm

The Royal Palace of Stockholm is His Majesty The King’s official residence and major royal palace of the Swedish monarch.  The King and Queen, together with the departments in the Royal Court, work here.  The palace is built in baroque style by the architect Nicodemus Tessin and is formed as a Roman palace.  The palace has 1430 rooms, 660 with windows and is one of the largest royal palaces in the world still in use for its original purpose.  It is located on Stadsholmen, in Gamla Stan.

A Royal Guard on duty

Oh I just have to mention this!  Our local tour guide told us that the Royal Guards on duty in the palace are all volunteers, and we also saw some really young ladies on duty too! To them, it’s an honour to be able to stand on duty at the palace… Wow 😉
