After checking in at our lovely Day+ Hotel, we went out to hunt for the nearest night market, as recommended by the hotel reception staff – Wenhua Road Night Market (文化路观光夜市). It is about a 20 minute walk once we exit the hotel and turn left, then just walk straight ahead till we reach the night market logo.
As we were tired from our turbulent flight in the afternoon, we didn’t really have much of an appetite & tried a few food stalls only so I can’t say I can really recommend haha.
The hotel staff recommended this 好味道小吃店 for its 噜肉饭 & 鸡肉饭 which we both enjoyed very much as they were very tasty, though appearance didn’t look too appetising. The Seaweed Soup was also quite good, felt like home-cooked fare. 🙂 The best part, I would say is the price, 3 items for only NT$80 and we felt full and satisfied after that!
I also tried some Soy Beancurd from a stall that claimed it has been around for more than 60 years. However I didn’t really like it, as the Soy Beancurd was not silky smooth. It was interesting though, as there were different flavours to choose from including peanut, barley etc and I picked barley (NT$30).
My friend tried some Grass Jelly Bubble Milk Tea from one of the many bubble tea stalls around and she thought it was better than Singapore’s Gong Cha. Too bad I couldn’t try coffee & tea at night else I won’t be able to sleep that night!
We finished exploring the night market and returned to the hotel within 1.5 hours. Chiayi City is a quiet little town so I guess this is one of the better choices for you to explore should you be there for the night to transfer to Alishan the following day. 🙂
