Radisson Hotel Harrisburg is about 30 minutes’ drive away from Hershey’s Chocolate World and it was our home for our 4th night in the States. This is a 2-storey hotel, so there was no elevator. The hotel structure is elongated, and we realised that we were allocated rooms on the ground level at the end of the building (hotel reception is on the second level). What’s more we had to actually lug our big luggage down the 2 flights of stairs to get to our rooms! The whole tour group was groaning in dismay especially when we had many senior citizens in the group. Fortunately our kind and “strong” tour leader insisted that he would settle it for all of us while we proceed to our rooms first and he brought our luggage to our doorsteps in a jiffy (22 of us)! 😉
Anyway here are the photos of the hotel and our room……
The hotel interior may look similar to our second hotel, but to both of us, it was really not up to standard. Firstly, we had to try our room keys a few times before we could open the door successfully. Secondly, when we entered the room it reeked of smoke (although it claims that all rooms are non-smoking). In addition, the fact that we had to lug all the heavy luggage up and down the stairs irked us (although we did not physically do it). Besides, the room furnishings were dated and dusty. Furthermore the free wireless connection signal was really lousy. The further you stay away from the hotel reception, the weaker your wifi signal, and even the hotel reception advised that “you have to find your way in the room to get the strongest wifi signal you can get”.:( In fact it was one of the lousiest hotels (out of 8 hotels we only rated 2 as lousiest and most “memorable” in a bad light) we had to stay throughout our trip.
We went out for a walk to explore the hotel and got locked out of the room! No choice we had to seek help from the hotel staff to unlock our room which took a while. Perhaps the only good thing for this hotel was it has a carpark in front of your back door so guests who drive can park their cars in front of their doorway? Luckily our tour leader spared us (and himself) the agony of lugging all luggage back to the hotel reception when we checked out the next morning by asking our coach to drive to this carpark.
To conclude, I guess it is not hard to guess my verdict for this hotel? I will definitely not recommend it to anyone, even the hotel staff were not service-oriented. The reception told our tour leader that the swimming pool and fitness centre were available at night, but the pool was actually closed. They were also confused when we posed them questions about the hotel. Breakfast standard I can’t remember = nothing to rave about too. There were also no amenities at all in the vicinity of the hotel.
Fortunately it was only for 1 night! 😛
