Life can be bizarre sometimes. Barely 2 months into the travel industry, I stumbled upon a chance to go on a familiarization trip to Bali & Lombok for 5 days 4 nights, sponsored by the Indonesian Tourism Board in mid-November 2015. It’s my first time to these 2 islands btw. 😛 Ironically, throughout my 11-year full-time HR career (mostly handling regional roles in MNCs), I hardly get any “free overseas trip” to speak of. I take that as a positive sign in good faith, that stepping into the travel industry is a worthwhile risk! 😉
This aside, below is a snapshot of the 5D4N itinerary which I will follow up with individual posts:
Day 1: Arrive at Bali airport in the late morning. Lunch was Padang-style at Simpang Raya Restaurant followed by a tour at Tanah Lot Temple. Skipped the Lake Beratan due to heavy downpour, hence proceeded up north to Melka Excelsior Dolphin Hotel Resort Lovina directly to check in for the night.
Day 2: Woke up very early for a Dolphin-Watching Boat Tour to depart 6am at Lovina Beach. Thereafter it was back to the hotel for breakfast and a captivated dolphin show. On the way to Kuta, stopped for buffet lunch at Mentari Restaurant by the Bedugul Lake. Arrived at H Sovereign Bali for Indonesia hotels and tour agencies’ “commercial air time” (which means work & no play for me!;-() followed by buffet dinner with performances at the hotel. Overnight at Ramayana Kuta Resort Bali.
Day 3: Free & easy time to explore the famous Kuta Beach area in Bali this morning before lunch and shop at Krisna Oleh Oleh. After that, it was time to fly to Lombok. A yummy local Ayam Taliwang dinner before checking in to Kila Senggigi Beach Hotel for 2 nights.
Day 4: After breakfast in hotel, it was time to explore the beautiful Gili Trawangan, a 30-min speed boat ride away from the mainland. Buffet lunch by the beach at Vila Ombak followed by hotel inspection (arrghh… work again!) before returning to Senggigi Beach for a BBQ sunset farewell dinner at Warung Menega.
Day 5: Visited some local shops + a Traditional Sasak Village in South Lombok. Also had our last lunch at a local restaurant in Segara Anak Hotel along Kuta Beach. Made a brief stop at the scenic but scorching Kuta beach as well before heading to airport for flight home.
Frankly, I don’t think I have really seen many places in Bali & Lombok through this trip given that it is somewhat a work holiday. Hopefully I can visit Lombok (as it’s less commercialized compared to Bali) in detail next time to relax by the picturesque beaches, rice fields and rustic nature! 🙂
